NTU Grading System Singapore

The (Nanyang Technical University Singapore) NTU Grading System is designed to provide students with a consistent and fair method of evaluation. The system is also intended to promote excellence in academic performance.

Grades are assigned based on a student’s relative position in the class, with the highest performing students receiving the highest grades.

A student’s final grade in a course is determined by a number of factors, including class participation, exams, papers and projects. The specific weighting of each factor varies from course to course.

Term Grade Point Average (TGPA) NTU

Term Grade Point Average, or TGPA, It shows the grade point achieved by a student in a term.It is a measure of a student’s academic performance in any given term.

It is calculated by taking the average of all grades earned in that term, with each course weighted according to its credit value.

TGPA =  sum (Grade Point * AU for course attempted in that term)

TGPA can be a useful tool for tracking a student’s progress over time, as it provides a more holistic picture of their performance than simply looking at their GPA for each individual course.

Additionally, TGPA can be a helpful predictor of a student’s final GPA for their entire program of study.

As such, it is important for students to be aware of their TGPA and to strive to maintain a high level of academic achievement in each term.

* TGPA = YGPA (Year Grade Point Average)

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) NTU

Cumulative Grade Point Average, or CGPA, is a measure of a student’s academic performance over their entire period of study.

It is calculated by taking the average of all grades earned in every course taken, with each course weighted according to its credit value.

CGPA =  [Grade Point * AU for course 1] +…..+ [Grade Point * AU for course X]

Total AU attempted in all semesters

The CGPA is the most important factor in determining a student’s academic standing.

A student’s CGPA must be 2.0 or above to graduate from NTU.

Students with a CGPA below 2.0 will be placed on academic probation.

They will be required to raise their CGPA to 2.0 or above within one year, or they will be dismissed from the university.

*AU = Academic Unit: Every course is assigned with fixed number of AU
