You are required to write a 2,000-word research paper on a major event of Assignment Details:your choice. This assignment is designed to test your ability to understand and apply theoretical frameworks in the context of major events. The term major (rather than mega) is used as you may wish to focus on a global event such as the Olympics, F1 Motor Race, the (soccer/cricket) World Cup – even the Eurovision Song Contest – or, a less “global” one such as The Festival of Perth, Henley on Todd Regatta, Full Moon Party or Songkran Festival. In your paper, you are required to take into account:

• the principles of sustainability, giving equal attention to socio-cultural, economic and environmental aspects;
• the experience and meanings attached to the event;
• the history of the event;
• theoretical frameworks from related fields of study are encouraged – tourism, management studies, anthropology and the social sciences in general all provide fertile ground for your exploration;
• both the positive and negative impacts and outcomes of the events (both short term and long term, before during and after the event);
• the impact on different types of stakeholder (Who benefits and who loses out?);
