This assignment requires a detailed study of the primary power distribution system and its secondary source such as emergency sources provided in a building to meet the code requirements. The choice of a building can be either low-rise or high-rise buildings. The selected building can be residential, office, retails, service apartments or commercial buildings. The building single line diagrams (SLDs) Figure 1 & Figure 2 is enclosed for your study purposes.
You are NOT required to gain access to the consumer electrical switchroom due to safety reasons.
Your report should include but not restricted to the following:
(a) A site visit to the building with full address, general description of the building type, an overview of power reticulation basing on the provided SLD, the number of storeys and height of the building must be clearly described and supported with photographic evidence.
(b) Identify the HV (if applicable) and LV electrical distribution scheme in your study. The study should be closely related to the operation of the buildings and meeting the local code requirements. You should describe these systems in detail and state the consideration in the selection of the electrical components. i.e. choice of breakers, sizing of busbars, accessories etc. Support your findings with properly labelled photographs and sketches etc. You should include references to relevant codes/ regulations, its operational requirement and maintenance aspect.

(c) Identify the emergency power providers such as generators / UPS sources in your study. The study should be closely related to the operation of the buildings and meeting the local code requirements. You should describe these systems in detail and state the consideration in the selection of the electrical components. i.e. the changeover switching, choice of breakers and its accessories etc. You should include references to relevant codes/ regulations, its operational requirement and maintenance aspect. Properly numbered and labelled photographs, sketches and/or illustration should be presented to support your findings and elaborate on the main electrical system and major equipment.
(d) Identify and describe the choice of power supply received from the Utilities Companies, i.e. HV or LV and its associated equipment installed in the building. Describe and review the electrical connection to the Grid’s network in term of time, engagement of the appropriate personnel and its procedures that had fulfilled the requirements of the relevant codes of practice.
