Question 1A

A recent humanitarian crisis broke out in Yemen three weeks ago. There is a severe shortage of basic supplies including food, water, and medicine, which have taken a serious physical and mental health toll on its residents. Singapore is sending a group of volunteers to provide appropriate trauma-informed crisis support for a village of affected Yemenis. The humanitarian mission will take three weeks.

You are hired to train the volunteers in providing appropriate trauma-informed crisis support. As a group, you will create a deck of no more than 15 PowerPoint slides for this training. In this deck of training slides, you are required to:

Analyse and appraise the ways in which these volunteers can provide trauma-informed crisis support to the affected residents of Yemen. Be sure to also consider the timeline of the crisis and mission, cultural issues, varied ages of residents, and other relevant considerations mentioned in the excerpt above. Apply and define the relevant trauma-informed principle(s) where appropriate.

Ensure that the deck of training slides is presented in a manner that is informative, clear, and succinct. No videos are to be inserted into the slides. Slide designs are welcome but not necessary as no additional marks will be awarded for slide designs.

Question 1B

To provide effective humanitarian crisis support in Yemen, the volunteers will need to understand secondary traumatic stress (STS) and trauma-informed self-care strategies. This is especially pertinent because you were recently made aware that a couple of these volunteers have had prior trauma histories.

As their trainer, you will therefore create a one-page tip-sheet as a group for the volunteers to bring with them on this 3-week mission, containing relevant information they can apply to monitor and support themselves and also one another.
