Question 1
[Note: Parts of the following case were created for this GBA only]
TWG (https://twgtea.com/sg/en) is a Singaporean luxury teahouse chain offering tea products locally and internationally. Analyse information below for transport routing and optimisation options for the company.
Based on 2025 data, the average travel time and demand for tea boxes across 5 teahouses in Singapore is as follows:
Deliveries are conducted once a month between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm, and the company’s vehicle capacity is 50 boxes.
(a) As TWG’s transport planner, compute the subsequent transport routing innovatively.
- Calculate travel time for each route and total time if stores are served individually.
- Use the Clarke-Wright (CW) method to create an optimised routing combination. You must show step-by-step calculations, including the savings for each route.
- Final delivery time for the optimised route form the CW method
- Time reduction compared to the individual route method
- Considering the given delivery window, recommend a most suitable shipping network with a sketch showing the optimised route.
- TWG is considering updating its vehicle to a vehicle that has a capacity of 150 boxes. Would you recommend for or against this change? Provide reasons to justify your answer.
(25 marks)
(b) TWG wants to leverage AI to optimise its transport operations. In your opinion, at which level of transport optimisation does/can AI have the biggest impact on the company? Propose one specific AI-driven idea or strategy at the selected level of optimisation and explain how it would enhance transport efficiency for TWG. Discuss the advantages and challenges in implementing them. Support your answer with relevant examples and references.
(15 marks)
Total word count should preferably NOT exceed 600 words for this question (excluding calculations, figures, tables, in-text citations, and references if any). Generic answers will not be considered, provide reasons and justifications where applicable.
Question 2
Review a logistics company that you are familiar with and identify a transport innovation that the company has adopted or is in the process of adopting. You can select from the following list or based on the latest developments.
- Transport information
- Transport equipment
- Autonomous transport
- Blockchain
- Online platforms
- E-commerce
- Last-mile delivery innovations
Your discussion should avoid generalities and offer a clear rationale for your choices/suggestions. Support your arguments with relevant references and examples. Please present:
- An introduction to the company and the transport innovation implemented
- A description of how the company has introduced and adapted to the innovation in their logistics operations.
- A SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) related to the transport innovation and how these could influence the company’s current or future implementation of the innovation in the long and short term.
(40 marks)
