Diagnosis of building defects involves in-depth knowledge, experience and skills of multidisciplinary specialists. There are several diagnostic techniques that can be adopted.
(a) Discuss the principles of defects diagnosis.
(b) Dampness in concrete walls is one of the common building defects in the building industry. Diagnosis of such defects can be complex in some situations as it may be easily misdiagnosed as either water seepage or condensation or burst pipes. Examine the application of the FIVE (5) phases of the General Investigative Procedure for the diagnosis of dampness in concrete wall.
(c) Discuss at least FIVE (5) probable cause(s) of dampness in concrete walls.
