(a) Write a composition in English between 300 to 350 words on one of the following topics. The composition must be written by you without the aid of generative AI tools and should include at least two terms specific to Singapore.
- Describe a typical journey that you take to come to SUSS to attend classes, either by public transport or by driving. Include what you see, hear, smell, taste, touch and/or feel.
- As an SUSS student, do you think lifelong learning is more important today than it was a generation ago? Why or why not?
- Write about a time when you experienced the essence of the idiom “more haste, less speed”. What happened and how did you resolve the issue?

(b) Choose a generative AI tool and use prompts to generate two translations in Chinese. Name the tool that you used and the version number/date (if available) and briefly describe how you came up with the prompts (e.g. through trial and error, asking the tool). Your discussion should be within 150 words.
Include the screenshots of the prompts and output for both translations in an appendix. In another appendix, present both translations in a four-column table, one paragraph per row. The first column is the paragraph number. The subsequent columns are the source text (ST) and the two translations (TT1 and TT2).
(c) Propose some appropriate criteria to appraise the quality of the output from the generative AI tool that you used. Give an individual appraisal of the two generated translations with reference to the prompts that you used, as well as an overall appraisal of the generative AI tool in translating your composition. Illustrate your appraisal with examples, focusing on:
- the appropriate choice of words, stylistic and tonal consistency,
- grammatical issues such as syntactic and textual structures, and
- the appropriate cultural adaptation for the target audience (such as idiomatic expressions).
In your discussion, you can categorise the errors and/or use corresponding colours to illustrate your answer. Suggest improvements to the errors identified. Your answer should be in a continuous essay of not more than 800 words in English. The word count does not include examples that are presented in tables.
