We live in a society where leadership is a highly lauded phenomenon. Students are encouraged to develop leadership skills and employees are encouraged to practice leadership in the workplace. Many schools and organizations put people through leadership development programs, and many individuals aspire to be leaders in their own capacity.

However, in the book “The End of Leadership” by Barbara Kellerman, she notes that there is less and less respect for authority and those in leadership positions.
For this essay question, critically evaluate the functions of leadership and discuss times when leadership may not be useful or relevant.
