The COVID-19 global pandemic has disrupted teaching and learning in many unprecedented ways in Singapore, and across the world. One significant change is that face-to-face teaching and learning has been replaced with distant-learning as well as synchronous and asynchronous online classes. This has led to numerous concerns about access to education, the purpose of education, and the future of education in Singapore, and beyond.
a. Identify a specific educational setting in Singapore that has been affected by the COVID-19 global pandemic, for example, public schools, private education, early childhood education, adult education, etc. Provide an introduction to this context and identify the issue(s) from which you are building your critique.
b. Discuss the (i) meaning, (ii) significance, and (iii) implications of theories of learning or curriculum to substantiate your critique on why the issue(s) you have identified in (a) is/are problematic. An example of a theory of learning and curriculum is “the three functions of education and the three domains of educational purpose” by Biesta (pg.78, 2015).
