Answer the following questions

You are an advocate for a local conservationist group that believes in the protection of landmarks. Use your newfound knowledge of urban sociology to write a convincing, research-backed petition, to save ONE of the following iconic structures that are up for redevelopment:

• People’s Park Complex
• Pearl Bank Apartments
• Golden Mile Complex

Your petitions should:

1. Reflect a sufficiently researched background on the chosen icon, with emphasis on its significance to Singapore’s urban landscape; (20 marks)
2. Examine and contextualise the importance of conservation within both a localised and global urban climate, using relevant concepts and/or theories learnt in the course; and, (50 marks)
3. Address the persisting urban problem of land scarcity in Singapore by suggesting alternative solutions to complete demolition for the purpose of redevelopment. (30 marks)

Your essay should flow as a coherent whole but you should ensure you address each of the three parts distinctly.
