Question 1
Title of Assignment: Leader Deep Dive and Personal Leadership Reflection ‘
Project Description: The student to identify a leader who they have access to interview and who they greatly respect. The leader may be in business, not-for-profit, community or even sport. This person must be one of the top few leaders in the organization and ideally lead a team of more than 20 people. Reflect on your learning from MGT561 and at a minimum investigate the following questions with the leader, as well as develop your own questions:
- What was their leadership journey; what major events shaped them as leaders and why?
- What do they think are their key responsibilities as the leader? What 3 or 4 leadership characteristics do they believe they best exhibit; and why do they leverage those in particular?
- How do they build trust with their team and the organization?
- What does the leader believe are their strengths and their opportunity areas? How do they work on their gaps/opportunities; how do they push their own personal development?
- How is the business organisanised/structured (traditional, matrix, etc.) and why is that the case?
- You may add other questions of your choice to understand how they are impactful leaders.
Following the interview consider what you have learnt from the above interview and how it complements, or is not aligned with what we have covered in MGT561 and answer the below questions.
This End-of-Course Assessment report is to be comprised of 2,500 words + – 10% (excluding the cover page).
(a) Reflect on your discussion with this leader and profile their strengths, weaknesses and specifically how they impact their leadership team and their organization. Appraise the requirements of an impactful leader, and how this leader measures up, in your view.

Assume that you are now the leader, how would you lead the leadership team and the organization? How would you create an impactful team through coaching and leadership? What are some of the things you would keep that the current leader is doing? With your own authentic style, what would you do differently to construct the elements of trust and build a strong culture of performance within the business?
Question 3
Reflect on the current business strategy and organisation structure and explain in your words why that is the case for this company. How does this strategy and structure support the delivery of the product or service to the client(s)? Estimate the resources and business trade-offs the leader is making by taking this strategic and organisational approach. What risks exist with this approach; and how are they or could they be mitigated?

Assume you are now the leader of this business. Articulate the strategic priorities as well as the organisational structures you would keep. Recommend what you would change compared to the leader who you interviewed (explain the rationale for what you would change and keep). Explain how you would expand this business into another country (of your choice). Assemble the risk management approach and explain what risks and opportunities you would need to keep in mind and why they are relevant.

Describe how you would like people to see you and describe you as a leader (eg. competencies, style, approach)? Prioritise impactful leadership and identify areas where you would need to learn and grow moving forward? How will you continue your growth as a leader?
