Mental health is an important issue among young persons, and has gained prominence over the last decade here in Singapore. There are myriad reasons that contribute to poor mental health among young persons — ranging from stressors stemming from academic pursuits, societal expectations, the fast pace of life in Singapore, or challenges faced in building or maintaining relationships. All these have led to increased incidences of depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns among young persons. Though increasingly less so, stigmatization of mental health concerns remains a problem and oftentimes inhibits help-seeking behaviour.
The ‘Your Mind Matters’ (YMM) programme is a comprehensive initiative developed to address mental health challenges for young persons by adopting a multi-tiered approach, with the aims of raising awareness, providing support, and promoting mental well-being among Singaporean young persons aged 13 to 25 years, and include Secondary & Tertiary (Poly / Uni) students, young persons serving their National Service, as well as young persons working full-time.

First, the YMM programme will provide school-based Mental Health Workshops (MHW) that focus on stress management, coping strategies, emotional regulation, and mental health education. These MHW will be facilitated by mental health professionals and peer mentors, in conjunction with educational institutions.
Second, the YMM programme will offer an Online Mental Health Platform (OMHP) that incorporates articles, self-assessment tools, other resources, and forums moderated by mental health professionals. This interactive OMHP aims to provide a safe space for young persons to obtain credible information and anonymous support.
Third, Peer Support Networks (PSN) will be established in schools and Community Centres where young persons can engage and benefit from sharing experiences, offering mutual support, as well as contributing back by organizing activities that promote mental health awareness and destigmatization.
