Question 1
Singapore aspires to be a “Smart and Green” Global city by 2050. The Urban Redevelopment Authority ((URA) has recently completed its Concept Plan to build a “Smart Underground City” for future generations of Singaporeans. In view of the impact of climate change, the landuse planning for Singapore will be changed to have 30% business district, 30% water catchment and 40% residential and recreational facilities. As such, it is necessary to maximise the use of underground space for residential, recreational and services purposes so as to better protect our people from the adverse impact of climate change such as heat wave, flooding, heavy rain and strong winds. In addition, the underground built environment and amenities will also serve as bomb shelters in times of emergencies.
The government has recently conducted a selective tendering exercise to invite proposals from Smart Facilities Management firms to identify suitable smart FM solutions for the underground city. The proposal shall identify the needs and aspirations of Singaporeans who wish to stay at the underground city and provide both hard and soft smart FM solutions to manage the underground built environment.
You are the CEO of SUSS Smart FM Pte Ltd. Your FM company has been shortlisted by the government to participate in the selective tender for the proposed “Smart Underground city” project. You are required to propose suitable smart technologies and systems to be incorporated in the design and management of the “Smart Underground City”. The proposal shall take into consideration the challenges of building and managing “Smart Underground City” such as ventilation and indoor air quality, flooding risks, global warming of the earth, and quality of life of users in the “Smart Underground City”.

- Brand the proposed “Smart Underground City” as the future live, work and play living environment for Singaporeans.
- Improve customer services through the adoption of Smart technologies for both hard and soft FM.
- Achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals through smart technologies adoption.
- Optimise the use of resources and achieve cost savings for all stakeholders of the “Smart Underground City”.
