Question 1

The principal of Doyen Secondary School has assigned you and your sport services company to manage a half day (8am to 12 noon) recreational sport taster festival as part of onboarding 200 male and female students who have been admitted to Secondary One.

The festival will showcase five recreational sport and physical activities providing students with introductory experiences to try the sport or activity.

The objectives of the recreational sport taster festival art for students to explore various sport or physical activities, learn the basics to play in a safe environment, and to get involved in recreational sport by finding a right fit that is aligned with their interests and abilities.

Of the five activities, two must offer opportunities to play for wheelchair users. The principal believes in diversity and inclusion. He has confidence that sport and physical activity participation that support these values will promote respect and understanding among students and empower them to realise their full potential to become confident and resilient individuals.

The secondary school has a multi-purpose indoor sports hall that accommodates three badminton courts. The outdoor sports facilities include a basketball court, a netball court, a futsal court, two tennis courts and a rock climbing wall. You can assume that the facilities would be available to you at no cost.

There will be five teachers, each in charge of the five selected sports and 10 students who are captains and vice captains of each sport who will be working with you and your team of 10 members including yourself. There will also be 20 student volunteers.

Describe the steps for planning and developing the event. Explain what and how you would do by applying the Recreational Sport Programme Planning Model (Mull, Forrester and Barnes, 2019). Start from Step 3. A Gantt chart and a marketing poster are needed in your report.

(a) State clearly the five (5) sports and of which two (2) will offer opportunities to play for wheelchair users. Describe the planning, design and development of the four-hour recreational sport taster festival from Step 3 to Step 5.

(70 marks)

(b) Develop a Gantt chart showing i) breakdown of tasks, ii) timeline and iii) accounting for project team members’ responsibilities and hours throughout the project; and design a proposed A4 marketing poster targeted at the students.

(20 marks)

(c) Adherence to academic writing organisation, word limit, use of APA 7th edition for citations and quality supplementary research (such as peer reviewed journal articles) are expectations.

Note on citations:

(i) The course guide should not be a reference. You should read the actual sources in the guide to first understand and next cite the sources.

(ii) Citing sources that were not read or thoroughly understood leads to misinterpretation or distortion. It is considered deceptive citation practice and reflects poor scholarly standards. As an example, reading only the abstract or conclusion and not engaging with the full text does not provide you with a complete picture of the research context, methodology, findings, implications and limitations. Hence, it will lead to flawed understanding and inaccurate representation.

(10 marks)

Important:

The report should not exceed 2,000 words excluding cover and contents pages but including diagrams, tables, appendices and references. Indicate the word count clearly at the end of the report.
