Question 1
Your company is taking part in Virtual World Expo 2019. The requirement is for all participating companies to design an architectural project to be part of this Virtual Town that will be presented in the international exhibition. You have been tasked to carry out this design with the various BIM software available.
(a) Using Autodesk Revit or any relevant BIM authoring software, design a 2-storey bungalow approximately 500m2 in area.
The following are some design considerations:
– The site is approximately 30m x 30m in size. (MUST COMPLY)
– The bungalow should have setback 7.5 m from the front and 3m on all sides.
– The gridlines are recommended to be between 3m-5m apart.
– The intersection of the gridlines shall be the column position.
– The floor to floor is approximately 4.2m for 1st storey and 3.6m for 2nd storey respectively. (recommendation only)
– The 1st storey should have living room, dining, kitchen and guest room.
– There should be a main entrance, at least, 2.4m(width) x 3m(height).
– The 2nd storey should have 2 bedrooms with bathrooms and a family space.
– There should be a staircase from the 1st storey to the 2nd storey.
Your architectural BIM model shall include elements such as gridlines, architectural columns, architectural walls, architectural floor slabs, doors, windows and stairs. You are also recommended to use any other elements in the authoring software to make your model more complete.
You may also include any additional rooms, furniture and/or other elements, if desired.
Provide screenshots of your model based on the following requirements below, and submit your screenshots in the word (.doc) document:
1. 3D views (at least 1 interior & 1 exterior view)
2. All plan views
3. All elevation views
Note: Your screenshots should include the entire Revit interface. You do not need to model the topography and may use standard families in Revit for the assignment (30 marks)
(b) Present the final design of the project. Render ONE (1) 3D exterior view and ONE (1) 3D interior view of your model from any angle, and include the rendered images in the word document (.doc) for submission. (10 marks)
(c) Perform a clash detection or interference check test on your model your and highlight ONE (1) clashes or issues. Submit your screenshots of the highlighted clashes or issues in the word document (.doc) for submission. Your screenshots should clearly highlight and explain the clashes and issues presented. (5 marks)
(d) You are required to estimate the construction cost of your design. Provide a BIMbased cost estimate for your bungalow, based on your model in Q1(a). You may use any BIM cost-estimating software to arrive at an estimated construction cost.
You are required to screenshot your cost estimate and include it in the word document (.doc) and also submit the exported excel (.xls) file.
Note: You may assume arbitrary rates for the elements. Accuracy of rates is
insignificant for this exercise.

Question 2
Export your model from Q1 into Autodesk Navisworks format. To answer this question, you are required to simulate the construction sequencing of your design as follows below.
o Construct Floor Slab
o Construct Columns/Beams/Walls
o Construct Others
The duration of the tasks is arbitrary and need not be actual. You may assign them appropriately and accordingly.
Repeat the process for every storey, until the Roof Level (inclusive).
Develop a Virtual Construction Simulation (4D) for your model, and include the project scheduling on the top-right or top-left corner of the simulation. Export the completed simulation to an AVI or MP4 file, and submit the file as part of this assignment.(25 marks)
