5004ACC Assignment 1: Research Proposal 50%

To undertake an individual written assignment of approximately 3,000 words which covers the entire research process on a topic in accounting and finance. This must include a proposal for a research study into an accounting and finance topic, with an explanation as to how a literature review will be carried out and a justification for the choice of research methodologies used in this research.

Assessment criteria for Assignment 1:

1. Ability to formulate three research questions derived from the broader body of accounting and finance research.
2. Ability to justify the research methodologies to be used in this study with reference to appropriate literature.
3. Ability to review the relevant literature and explain how data will be collected and analysed with respect to the research questions.
4. Ability to identify key references and provide citations using CU APA 7th Edition Referencing system.

5004ACC Assignment 2: Career Development (50%)

Part 1: Reflective Journal (30%)

Students are required to submit an individual reflective journal of approximately 1,500 words. (Excluding CV and Cover letter)

This journal should include:

1. Current status of Singapore’s graduate labour market with references and reports,
2. Three Effective Strategies for Seeking Job Opportunities with Appropriate References,
3. How to prepare for job interviews with appropriate references,
4. The skills needed at job interviews with appropriate references
5. CV and Cover Letter to Land Your Dream Job

Students shall be assessed on their ability to write a journal that details all the necessary skills required for a student to enter the graduate labour market.

Assessment criteria for Journal:

1. Ability to write a current status of the graduate labour market in Singapore supported with appropriate references / market reports.
2. Ability to demonstrate different ways of seeking job opportunities, preparing for job interviews and skills needed in job interviews.
3. Ability to submit a well-written personal employment portfolio (CV & Cover letter).

The Journal will be graded based on the following:

Part 2: Participation in activities and Presentation on interviewing skills (20%)

Assessment is based on the student’s participation in the group activities carried out in tutorial lessons and a presentation on interviewing skills as a job seeker. This presentation skill will benefit students who need to make a presentation during recruitment.

Assessment criteria:

(A) Participation in activities (10%)
Students are required to participate in role playing during job interview exercises and to provide feedback and comments on peers’ presentations.

Participation in activities is evaluated according to the following criteria:

1. Participate in role play (5%)
2. Participate in providing feedback and comments on peers’ presentations (5%)

(B) Presentation skills (10%)
Students are required to make a 5-minute individual power point presentation on the skills needed for a job interview.

The presentation will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

1. Organization of the presentation (5%)
2. Fluency of the presentation (5%)
3. 3% will be deducted if the students merely read from their scripts during the presentation.

Length of presentation: About 5 minutes presentation and 5 minutes discussion with the rest of the class.
Presentation date: During final two sessions.
