GUIDELINES

You are required to conduct a case study relating to one of the three local banks in Singapore and compile it into a report format. The lecturer will assign the name of one of the three local banks for the purpose of this assignment. You are advised to conduct research by gathering information from the website of the Singapore Stock Exchange and look out for the name of the bank you have been assigned. The 3 local banks are:

(a) DBS Bank
(b) OCBC Bank
(c) UOB Bank

The task objectives are to assess a student’s learning and understanding of the topics outlined in the module. They are:

1. Identify and critically discuss the key roles of the local bank in terms of its contributions to Singapore’s financial system. (30 marks)

2. Critically explain the capital requirements as laid down in Basel III regulations and discuss the impact of those changes in regulations on the local bank in the area of capital structure, liquidity, and profitability. (40 marks)

3. Critically discuss the implications of the global financial crisis which occurred in 2008 on the local bank’s financial performances shortly after the crisis and how did Singapore’s government monetary and fiscal measures calm the financial market in Singapore
