Assignment Outline

This individual assignment constitutes 50% of the overall assessment for the module, BM1651 Economics in Healthcare Management. The assignment is designed for learners to demonstrate their understanding and application of the module concepts which include demand & supply, market equilibrium, production factors & costs, market structures, and healthcare system and financing. It provides the learners with a firsthand experience of applying the concepts to analyze and solve a real- economic problem.

2. Learning Outcomes

After the completion of this assignment, learners will be able to:

• Explain the concepts of demand, supply, elasticity, and market equilibrium
  concepts pertaining to a case study based on the healthcare industry.
• Apply the concepts of production factors and costs of a hospital to evaluate
  healthcare costs.
• Analyze the market structures within the healthcare industry to evaluate the impact of government policies, systems and financing in managing healthcare.

3. Requirements

• Please read the case in Appendix 1 and submit a report based on the requirements stated below.
• Learners are to apply any relevant economic concepts and theories from the various topics in the module to explain the case effectively. Appropriate use of graphical analysis in the report is expected.
