Corporations around the world are facing enormous challenges amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Driven continuously by uncertainties caused by COVID-19, stock markets around the world have suffered heavy losses. Major economies, except China, have reported negative GDP growth during the year 2020. The pandemic also instigated significant political instability in many parts of the world and intensified international trade conflicts, such as between the US and China. Coincide with the Pandemic, a transition of White House administrations in the US is taking place after Joe Biden winning the presidential race in November 2020. To a large extent, Biden is expected to reverse Trump’s foreign policies and lead the US back to international cooperation in tackling major global challenges. While political tension between the world’s two largest economies may decrease, the US and China will remain major competitors of international trade and investment in the Asia-pacific region. Corporations in Asian economies, for instance, Singapore and Malaysia, face such a “new normal” global environment under which both the COVID pandemic and the US-China relationship will have strong influences on many aspects of their business for years to come.
