Personal meet-up session between Social Work Intern, Mr. Rizal, and Mr. Fauzi.

Session Objectives:

• To gather information about Fauzi, Ramli, and their family background.
• Impact of their father’s passing due to a heart attack10 years ago and Fauzi’s struggles to support the family financially ever since he was 19 years old.
• His regrets for mixing with bad company and experimenting with drugs.
• Fauzi’s disappointed of letting down Ramli as they have been developing a close relationship together despite the family’s struggles.
• Concern about mother coping financially, emotionally and her health well-being.
• The possible accumulation of arrears due to him not able to support the family financially upon his incarceration.
• Identify the point of contact to address his concerns.
• Link up his family to appropriate agencies (medical, financial, housing) for assistance.
• To guide Ramli with the application of financial education subsidy due to them being a needy family.
• To keep link Fauzi to his family via prison e-letter when he is imprisoned.

Background Information of the Session.

• Mr. Fauzi is a 29-year-old male who presently lives with his 52-year-old mother (Mdm Aishah) and a 19-year-old brother (Ramli) in a 2-room rented unit.
• Fauzi who has been charged with substance abused is expected to be sentenced to imprisonment in the middle of May 2021.
• He had attended a night session to meet the Member of Parliament, Senior Minister, Mr. James Lee with the hope of seeking help for his mother.
• An appointment was set for Fauzi to meet me SWI Rizal to assess his situation and then provide appropriate assistance or link his family to social svc agencies.
• Fauzi has been the sole income earner supporting the family.
• His mother has been certified unfit for employment due to her asthmatic condition and other medical ailments.
• His younger brother Ramli will be starting his polytechnic studies in mid-April 2021.

Challenges ahead

• Fauzi is concerned of the household bills which need to be paid and with no source of income, arrears may accumulate.
• The financial assistance from the Social Svc Office and Islamic Religious Council for the mother will be expiring and Fauzi is unsure who will be guiding her to renew that assistance.
• He is also worried of the monthly housing rental fee and his mother’s medical which she will have to pay upon his incarceration.
• Mother is determined to be a certified fit for employment and has been medically compliant.
• His brother Ramli is expected to pay more for the upcoming polytechnic fees education.
• Fauzi is also unsure of the legal process and court session procedure for his May 2021 court sentencing.
• Unsure of communicating with mother and brother while he is imprisoned.
