In this assignment, you are required to understand and apply the main issues and principles discussed in the chapters on middle and late adulthood development.

Your next-door-neighbor is a couple in their mid-sixties. They happen to know that you are taking a course on life-span development. One day, the woman, Mdm Ros confides in you that she feels they are both slowing down and cannot quite do the activities they used to do. Their only son is married and living on their own in another part of town.

They tried to visit once a week, but when the son and family are busy, it could be a few weeks before they could have a meal together. While Mdm Ros and her husband are still capable of caring for themselves, she is worried about getting old and become dependent and/or being abandoned. She is wondering if you could sit down with them one day and give them some tips on how to age successfully.

You agreed and decided to do some research, and conduct a psycho-education session with your neighbor.

Your assignment (not more than 2000 words) will be assessed as follows:

1. Identify and discuss the main changes and challenges that take place for adults like Mdm Ros and her husband as they go through midlife and entering late adulthood. Critically discuss the theories and/or principles you have learnt to illustrate how developmental processes (i.e., biological, cognitive, and socioemotional) have contributed to the main changes and challenges faced by them.
2. Using the processes of development (i.e., physical, cognitive, and socioemotional) as a framework, identify and explain the main needs of Mdm Ros and her husband at this stage of their life and as they enter into late adulthood. Applying the theories and/or principles from the relevant chapters, formulate a comprehensive intervention plan for ageing successfully for your psycho-education session with Mdm Ros and her husband.
