Case:

‘Superbugs’ or antimicrobial-resistant organisms are an increasingly serious threat to global public health.

Antimicrobial resistance is the ability of a microorganism to stop an antimicrobial (such as antibiotics, antivirals, and anti-malarial) from working against it.

You have been hired as a global health consultant to make some evidence-based recommendations on the implementation of a program to prevent the spread of antimicrobial resistance in i) Any high or high-middle SDI country in Asia or ii) any low or low-middle SDI country in Asia(except China & Timor Leste)

Part 1:

Describe the estimated burden of the problem using available literature and data from credible sources. Clearly indicate what the nature of the problem is, who is affected by it and what factors contribute to the issue.

Part 2:

1. Summarize the existing intervention(s) that currently address this problem in your chosen setting and their impact. Where in the social-ecological model of health do these interventions target? State clearly who your target population is. Out of the existing interventions, select ONE intervention that you think is the most feasible solution to this problem and explain why. What does the literature suggest about the efficacy and sustainability of the selected intervention? Identify the strengths and limitations of this intervention for the target population and suggest how you would address the limitations.
2. Who are the stakeholders involved with implementing this intervention? How would they be involved in your intervention?
3. What cultural and ethical issues (if any) do you need to take into consideration when addressing this issue?
