Assessment 1 – Workplace Risk Based Assessment

Students will be provided with a file of a selected workplace. Within the file will be:

• A description of the workplace together with pictures (powerpoint presentation)
• Copies of completed qualitative/quantitative risk assessments relating to various aspects of the workplace.
• Data relating to accident reporting

1. Introduction (Understanding of Risk) (~20% marks)

Students will be expected to draw on relevant sources to provide a brief outline of:

• Risk and risk assessment (qualitative & quantitative)
• A recognised risk management standard
• A risk assessment process

2. Review and Evaluation of a Workplace Based Scenario (~60% marks)

Students will be expected to review the evidence presented in the workplace file and evaluate the current level of compliance in relation to the health and safety hazards identified (CoSHH, workplace risk assessment, occupational health, and accident data)

• Undertake a review and evaluation of qualitative and quantitative risk assessments completed in relation to the workplace.
• Undertake an analysis of the accident data and comment on trends identified and suggest possible cause(s), prevention and how you think the workplace could be made safer in relation to the accidents presented.

3. Conclusion and Recommendations (~10% marks)

In this section students should summarise the findings of the workplace review and provide recommendations for future consideration. Clear justification for recommendations must be highlighted.
