PSY376 ECA (End-of-Course Assessment): July Semester 2024 – Psychology of Trauma: Theories and Applications, Singapore

Question 1

According to SAMHSA, the six trauma-informed principles are (1) safety, (2) trustworthiness and transparency, (3) peer support, (4) collaboration and mutuality, (5) empowerment, voice, and choice, and (6) cultural, historical, and gender issues. The practice of becoming more trauma-informed is an ongoing process that requires introspection, self-evaluation, and consistency.

Briefly illustrate one previous stressful situation you had observed and/or were involved in (e.g. work, school, personal), where at least one trauma-informed principle was not adequately practised. Analyse and assess the psychological, emotional, and social impact it had on yourself, the person(s) involved, and if applicable, the relationship(s).

Question 2

Select two different trauma-informed principles and apply them in two separate relationships – (i) work/school and (ii) personal relationships, over the course of two weeks, e.g. safety in work relationship and trustworthiness and transparency in personal relationship. Please provide brief details of these two relationships, your reasons for choosing them, and explain how you had applied and practiced the trauma-informed principles in each of the relationships.

Appraise the effects of the above mentioned practices on yourself, the persons involved, and the relationships. As part of your assessment, you need to explain ratings made by two persons (one from each relationship) on how trauma-informed you were on a Likert scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being most able to apply that specific trauma-informed principle, e.g. a rating of 6 out of 10 on being supportive at work in the past two weeks.
