Assignment Details:

This ECA is an individual project that requires you to carry out technically sound analysis of academic discourse and apply your knowledge of accepted practices in writing up discourse analysis research articles to your own writing.

Detailed instructions are given below.

A. Prepare a discourse analysis of one of the two main sections of two research articles from a scholarly journal in a discipline of your choice

B. Based on your analysis, critique the text(s) that you have chosen in relation to features of the genre you have identified. Write up your response in the form of a research article in accordance with established academic discourse practices.

To do this, research how such articles are usually written. Your article must follow APA conventions of citations and references (6th ed.). It must also include a short abstract of about 100 words. The text(s) chosen for analysis as well as any detailed analysis that you have done must be included in your appendices. (50%)

Appropriate choice of text(s) for discourse analysis:

• Clear objectives for analysis
• Accurate and comprehensive analysis of features
• Careful consideration of important aspects of academic and disciplinary context
• Insightful critique in relation to specific features of the genre identified in previous research
• Appropriate use of features and format of a research article, including an appropriate abstract
• Coherent and accurate writing in accordance with APA conventions of citations and references (6th ed.)
