THE PROBLEM
You have been provided with a file of data extracted from DEFRA’s air pollution archives. It shows PM2.5 pollution levels in the centres of Leeds, and of York, during the winter of 2015/16. Despite being close together, these cities but have different characteristics and it is interesting to see how this affects the environment.
We will be looking in particular at the PM2.5 levels;
- To make the task manageable, you need to select a sample of 10 days and work out the average PM5 levels at the two sites.
- You will carry out a test to see if the difference between the sites is statistically significant.
- You will investigate how well correlated are the PM5 levels in the two cities? In other words, if the level in one city changes can we expect a similar change in the level in the other city?
