Digitization is influencing the way we operate our business. Market dynamics such as the introduction of “Big Data” are redefining the future role of category management within the organization.
(a) Given that digital transformation is gradually taking place, pick an organization (either an institution in the commercial or public sector) that you are currently working for or you are familiar with that is presently working on or has a plan to enable digital category management. First, describe the organization. Then, analyze the procurement setup and digital tools applied that are required to support this digital transformation on strategic procurement with respect to category management.
(b) Using the organization that you have stated above, you are to perform a detailed spend analysis on the various commodities of the organization. First, examine how buyers’ needs and attitudes have evolved and discussed how with the help of digital tools, buyer procurement priorities are progressing to help the company navigate the market uncertainty and changing procurement preference. Then, with the help of Portfolio Analysis, appraise the position of the commodity in the current state and the likely quadrant it is likely to be position in the post-digital period. Finally, in line with their classification,
modify the strategic actions you would take now to manage the commodity and new strategies if any in the new normal.
(c) Choose three (3) value levers that you would apply and develop your own argument on how these levers can provide opportunities for you to leverage and pursue.

Company H procurement set up is a centralized office where all the APAC customers’ inquiries for all 33 products under its umbrella are received and processed. Below Figure.1 is the organization chart for Singapore Office (HSG).
