Assignment:
1. Background
The recent COVID-19 pandemic has affected many businesses globally. One of the sectors that are greatly impacted by the pandemic is the retail sector. The financial and operational challenges faced by the retail sector have corresponding effects on people management within the firm. HR functions of business within this industry have to move quickly and adapt their practices to cope with the challenges faced.
2. Task
For this assignment, select an organization in the retail sector. Write a 2,500-word report to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the organization and corresponding people issues (including strategic selection and recruitment issues, career development, and retention).
Using theories and concepts taught in the course, provide recommendations on how the organization can address these challenges.
The report should broadly comprise the following segments:
(a) Introduction. This section should provide a description of the organization and discuss how COVID-19 has impacted the business of the organization
(b) Main Body. You have the latitude to decide how to structure the main body of the report. Whichever configuration, this section should:
i) Discuss TWO (2) to THREE (3) corresponding HR challenges caused by the
COVID pandemic.
ii) Provide a detailed analysis of how the HR function is affected.
(c) Recommendations. This section should propose specific HR recommendations on how the organization can address these challenges. You should provide the rationale and evaluate the strengths and limitations of your recommendations.
3. Additional Information
As a group, you are expected to carry out extensive research on the impact of COVID-19 in the organization that you have selected. There should be a minimum of TEN (10) references.
Your research should extend beyond the course materials. There is no restriction on the particular management or business journals that your group can choose for your research.
However, they should be of good academic quality and reference materials should be current (i.e. not earlier than 2010). A list of good-quality literature sources is provided below.
