Question 1

Illustrate TWO (2) ways in which childhood play is qualitatively different today and examine how young children’s play experiences are increasingly shaped by technology. Use relevant literature to support your answer.

You may choose to either write an essay or create a video clip with images and narration of not more than 3 mins to illustrate these two ways.

If you choose to create a video clip, do ensure that the images you use are captured by yourself and do not contain images of others. As the video file will be too large to submit into the portal, you may upload it as a private YouTube video or as a file in Google Drive. In addition to submitting the link to the video clip, submit the written narration that was recorded in the clip.

Your written narration should be included in the word count.

This question requires an analysis of your role as early childhood educator in the context of technology shaping young children’s play experiences. To do so, read:

a. By relating to Tan’s (2025) commentary, propose ONE (1) learning experience which demonstrates the mindful use of technology to strengthen young children’s play experiences in your early childhood setting. The learning experience should describe how mindful use of technology promote children’s play, as well as include the role of the children, the educator and the resources.

b. Identify TWO (2) key features of the learning experience in 2(a) that exemplify respect for child voice. Use your course readings to strengthen your argument.

c. Examine the extent to which the learning experience in 2(a) aligns with:

• the position statement on technology and young children by the Association of Early Childhood Educators Singapore (AECES) https://www.aeces.org/about-us/positionstatement/. Provide ONE (1) example to support your answer.
