Question 1
Draw an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) for the following case study:
Blue Garage Private Limited (BGLM) provides car maintenance services to its clients. To keep costs low, BGLM employs freelance mechanics. A record of the names of freelance mechanics working for the garage together with their employee identification is maintained for payment purposes.
A car has one owner although some owners have more than one car. When a client contacts the garage, the workshop clerk verifies the client’s details. If it is a new client, details of the client are added to the client files. The clerk checks the current service schedule, and the date and time are agreed with the client and a unique job number is given to the client for reference.
The chief supervisor assigns mechanics to carry out each service job. Sometimes more than one mechanics are assigned to the job. Each job might require using one or more service parts. This service part has a part number, description, and unit price for billing purpose. When the job is complete, the clerk prepares a bill for the client. On payment, the clerk updates the job record.
Please take note that the ERD must clearly show all attributes, primary key, foreign key, relationships (and their types) on the diagram., as well as any assumptions you have made. (30 marks)
