Case Study – Individual (50%) The objective of this assignment is to enable course participants to undertake a case study of somebody with psychosocial problems (issues) by applying the theories and concepts explored in the course to shed light on and offer potential solutions to the problems.
This is an opportunity for you to consolidate your understanding of the different topics that you learn in this course. This “Case Study” essay should not exceed 2,000 words (excluding the list of references cited and/or tables/figures, if any) and it should be type-written with Times New Roman or Arial, font size 12, and double-spaced.
Indicate the number of words at the end of your essay.
• Begin by identifying and describing the psychosocial problems/issues faced by a person. This person can be one of your students, colleagues, family members, employees, historical figures – dead or alive (or even yourself!). Give this person a fictitious name and provide necessary information about his/her background to better understand the problems.
• With reference to the theories and concepts on psychosocial development covered in this course, reflect on the experiences of this person and identify and clearly describe 3 major issues/concerns/needs/challenges that the person faces. If the person is an adult, link the issues s/he faces significant events (or experiences) in his or her developmental years that may be associated with the current issues. Relate and explain the link between the issues and experiences. Describe the impact on his or her development. • Make explicit links between the issues, experiences, and course concepts about psychosocial development. Provide theoretical background / empirical research to support your explanations. How does your theoretical understanding of the issues help you give meaning to what was happening? • Apply concepts learned to propose strategies/influences/ actions that you as an individual (i.e., a friend, a teacher, a parent, or a colleague) could undertake to help facilitate positive outcomes or suggest interventions to provide resolutions to the presenting issues.
