Section A: Laboratory Report (20 Marks)

Write a laboratory report based on one of your histology practical sessions where you processed and stained a tissue sample using a special stain. Your report should address the following components:

i) Using a flowchart, explain the rationale of performing each step in the protocol used.

ii) Provide at least 2 images from your microscopic observations and label the key structures clearly. Use these images to explain what you have observed under the microscope.

iii) Suggest TWO possible errors as seen from your final product OR TWO precautionary measures you should have taken to improve the quality of your slide(s).

*Follow a scientific lab report format for Section A task.

Section B: Graded Assignment – Case Study (20 Marks)

Compare the cytological processing of a cervical smear (Pap test) and a pleural fluid sample. Describe the differences in how each sample is handled upon receipt, the smear preparation methods used, fixation and staining techniques, and common preparation errors. Reflect on how these factors affect the quality and interpretation of the final slides for diagnosis.
