Question 1

“You are a competent energy manager (SCEM) and in-house building manager representing the owner of a 16 years old Hotel. Hotel management is planning to obtain certification of the Energy Management System (ISO50001) for the hotel.”

(a) You are to ensure that management’s commitment to achieve energy performance improvement. In order to achieve this goal, energy policy must be in place. Propose a energy policy to demonstrate an understanding of energy management approaches. Energy policy shall include FIVE (5) suggested top management commitments.

(b) The hotel shall develop, record and maintain energy saving measures. Provide energy saving measures checklist for THREE (3) systems that are used in this hotel. Explain the brief reason for each item. The purpose of providing a checklist is to develop, record and maintain the energy saving measures. The criteria shall be well documented in order to identify, prioritise and record opportunities for improving energy performance.

You may identify the appropriate systems from the list stated below. This list is only for guidance and you may explore other appropriate systems.

(c) The hotel management shall identify and plan operation and maintenance activities, in order to ensure that they are carried out under specified conditions. Discuss the possible means of operational control.
