Assignment Details:

This coursework aims to enhance your understanding of the role of the airport and its impact on the economies of South-East Asia. Focus your research and evaluation on the following 5 countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines At the end of your report, the reader should be able to appreciate the complexity behind their airport operations and their airport strategies to support the growth and development for the next 10 years, especially for e-commerce cargo-related activities.

To complete this assignment, you will need to complete the following tasks:
1. ( 25 marks ) Find out how many international/ total number of airports ( excluding military ) are there in each of the five countries in South-East Asia. Brief highlights for each country’s situation. Support with country maps showing their locations. During the past 2 years, what were the aviation-related (airport & airline) news in each country? Highlight briefly for each country.
2. ( 5 marks ) From your research, is there any solely-cargo airport(s) in those 5 SEA countries?
3. ( 20 marks ) Choose 2 major airports and evaluate their current layout and airport infrastructure with more focus on those related to cargo. Describe any current constraints faced by them and plan to resolve.
4. ( 10 marks ) Describe and evaluate the strategies of the 2 major airports in supporting the growth and development of e-commerce cargo-related activities in their countries. You may want to read on what Schiphol Airport and Shanghai are working on.
