5.1 Coursework Assignment
The coursework (50%) is an individual piece of work based on the 2024 Annual Report of VODAFONE GROUP plc.
Students are encouraged to obtain their own copy of the 2024 Annual Report from the company’s website:

The coursework should be word-processed on single sides of A4 (font size 12 point). The length should be 1,500 words overall (state number of words). Each piece of coursework must have a front cover which shows the matriculation number and tutor. Your name should not appear anywhere on the piece of coursework. Also, note the information on plagiarism below.
All coursework is checked for plagiarism so you will also be asked to submit an electronic copy of your coursework through Edinburgh Napier University’s web site Moodle. To do this you need to keep your Edinburgh Napier University password up to date.
Note: Non-submission of the coursework will constitute a failure in this element of assessment. Late work, without a prior extension being granted, will be capped at 40%.
Where appropriate your work must be properly referenced and include a reference list (a bibliography is not required). Plagiarism is not determined based on similarity percentage. There is no minimum/maximum similarity percentage. It is all about being honest of your work, acknowledging other people’s works if you use them, and observing good academic conduct. The coursework involves an analysis of the annual report and accounts of VODAFONE GROUP plc. You will need to obtain a copy of the annual report for the year ended 31 March 2024 which you should be able to download from their website.
Schedule of Work
- Introduce the company to the reader. Your introduction must include the principal activities of the company, products, markets and some key financial results to give an indication of size and trends within the business.(10% approx 300 words)
- Using the annual report and accounts, calculate the percentage movement on the following figures. You should include the following table in your assignment.

- Calculate, for BOTH the current and the previous year, FIVE financial ratios that help to highlight the company’s performance for the trading period. Show how you have calculated your ratios. You must show the formula and the workings for each of the ratios used.(10%)
- Using the closing share price on 31 March 2024, calculate the P/E (use the reported basic program the income statement) and the dividend yield (use P/E value).

(If the year end falls on a weekend when the markets are shut, you can use the closing price on the last Friday to calculate these ratios). Select a company in the same industry sector. How does this company’s P/E ratio compare to your company, giving reasons for any difference. What would your company’s share price be if the other company’s P/E was applied? Comment on this result.

- a) Calculate and comment briefly on the absolute share price performance, and the shares performance relative to the FTSE 250 index, of the shares of VODAFONE GROUP plc. between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024.
