Instructions for lecturers

Each group to have maximum of 4 students. Each student will role play as caregiver of a different scenario. If the group has 3 students, only 3 scenarios will be attempted. All groups will cover scenarios 1 and 5 and pick the other from scenarios 2,3 and 4.

Scenario 1 [every group to have this scenario]

You are a caregiver in an infant room with a 6-month-old baby who is having difficulty sleeping during nap time. The baby is crying and seems agitated. Demonstrate how you would apply the 3Rs (Respectful, Responsive, and Reciprocal) to support the baby’s emotional needs and help them feel secure and comfortable during nap time.

Scenario 2

You are a caregiver in a toddler room during snack time. One of the toddlers has food allergies, and you need to make sure that they receive appropriate food and avoid cross-contamination with allergens. Demonstrate how you would embed learning to support the toddler’s development while ensuring their safety during snack time.

Scenario 3

You are a caregiver in an infant room, and one of the babies is struggling to sit up and support their neck during tummy time. Demonstrate how you would build a positive relationship with the baby, encourage their motor development, and embed learning to support their development during tummy time.

Scenario 4

You are a caregiver in an infant toddler room and one of the toddlers is struggling to share toys during playtime. Demonstrate how you would build positive relationships with the toddler, support their social-emotional development, and embed learning to support their social skills during playtime.

Scenario 5 [every group to have this scenario]

You are a caregiver in an infant toddler room, and a parent approaches you with questions about their child’s development. Demonstrate how you would build a positive relationship with the parent, communicate effectively about the child’s development, and work collaboratively with the parent to support their child’s learning and development.
