Supporting the child’s literacy development

Based on your observations and understanding of Kaia’s interests, needs, language and literacy development, discuss how you would design activities to support her in the classroom.

a. Identify the key concepts of language and literacy development in the early years and explain how they shape your understanding of Kaia’s development.

b. Apply your knowledge of language and literacy development to propose TWO (2) activities for Kaia. These can be individual, pair and/or group activities. Explain the rationale for your choice and design of the activities and how they are relevant to Kaia’s interests and needs. Provide an outline of the proposed activities and include examples of strategies you would use and what you would do and say to foster communication and emergent literacy.
