Question 1
Identify and explain the SMM rules required for measuring trench excavation associated with the laying of sewerage pipes. Your answer should include the information to be given, general description and measurement rules.

Question 2
Interpret Figures Q2.1 to Figure Q2.4 and apply measurement techniques to take off quantities of the Inspection Chambers (IC 1 & 2) for the following works:
(a) Excavation and concrete work; and
(15 marks)
(b) Brick walls, rendering, precast slab and associated works
(15 marks)
(c) Drainage work between ICs 1 and 2
(15 marks)

Specifications:
(i) There is one 100mm diameter half round branch drain channel connected to each Inspection Chamber.
(ii) Bricks shall be in common bricks, laid English Bond, bedded and jointed in cement and sand mortar.
(iii) Vitrified clay channels shall be bedded and jointed in cement and sand mortar (1:3).
(iv) Concrete benching shall be in mass concrete grade 25.
(v) Main drain line shall be 150mm diameter cast iron pipe.

(a) Identify and explain the general rules, description and specific SMM rules required for measuring reinforcement bars.

(b) Interpret Figures Q3.1 and Figure Q3.2 and apply measurement techniques to take off quantities for the steel reinforcement in concrete beam.
(15 marks)

Specifications:
(i) Column size is 300x300mm and concrete cover is 25mm thick
(ii) Bend allowance is 200mm
(iii) Lap allowance for bars is 300mm and hook allowance is 24 times diameter of bar

(a) Identify and explain the specific SMM rules (Measurement Rules only) for measuring steel portal frame.

(b) Apply measurement technique to prepare a take-off list including the unit of measurement for the steel portal frame.
