Question 1 Create a news video covering an issue of public interest concerning finding employment in post-pandemic Singapore. [For context: in 2020, unemployment in Singapore reached its highest level in a decade because of the global pandemic.]
Conduct relevant research on this subject and produce an appropriate video (with various multimedia elements) to be posted on a news website. Your news video should have a focused story angle and include interviews with TWO people (preferably via online video conferencing and from different backgrounds). a) Video Script (30 marks)
• Write a news video script between 3 and 5 minutes. Please refer to the script template and sample in Appendices 1 & 2 and format your script accordingly.
• Apply your understanding of newsworthiness to craft an engaging news story. • Plan for the script to serve as a guide on how you’ll be preparing for and editing your news video (see part b). The script and video should be covering the exact same content.
b) News Video (70 marks) • Create a news video between 3 and 5 minutes. This video should comprise the following elements:
- Text (headline, captions, blurbs, etc.)
- Two (2) online video conferencing interviews (that you conduct and record with interviewees)
- Video*
- Photographs*
- Optional: Infographics* * Such multimedia can be original footage created by you or taken from external sources (with proper attribution) Do note that each interviewee is required to sign and email over a completed consent form and images of the signed forms are to be submitted in a word document along with your written script for this assignment.
- Storytelling and research Be creative in the conceptualization of the video. Your narrative should demonstrate a grasp of the journalistic principles covered in this course.
You should distill visual footage and information into a newsworthy video through basic editing. You will also be graded on how effectively your video answers the 5Ws (Who, What, Where, When, Why) and 1H (How) of your story.
Technical quality While the technical quality of your production need not be broadcast-worthy, all images, sounds, and interviews in your final edit must be of an acceptable standard (i.e., clearly visible and audible). The video, photos, audio, music, interviews, and narration may be recorded with digital cameras, camcorders, or mobile phones.
