Building Condition Survey
Select a building (residential or commercial or institutional) for this assignment. You are required to gather the following information related to the building concerned.
Question 1
(a) Identify and describe TWO (2) major types of windows, and wall systems that have been used in the building.

(b) Describe with the aid of an annotated diagram/picture, the different components of the window system used in the building.

Question 2
Describe with reasons whether the existing window systems of the selected building are fulfilling its functional requirements or not [at least FIVE (5) requirements.

Question 3
The external wall system of the building is a non-load-bearing cavity wall. The owner of the building will like to renew the plastering at the inner side of the wall as it is old and subject to cracking. As a representative of the managing agent, answer the following:
(a) Explain to the owner, the differences between solid wall and cavity wall in terms of design principles.

(b) Explain to the owner, the routes of water leaking through the cavity wall and what should be done to prevent water leaking and failure of the cavity wall.

(c) Discuss with the owner, purposes of using plastering and appropriate bonding of plastering to the background wall.
