Responding to a bullying incident in a primary school, Singapore Education Minister Ong Ye Kung stated that bullying in schools “cannot be tolerated anywhere”. Mr. Ong said that the school involved will ensure that pupils understand the seriousness of their actions and that appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken. The Ministry of Education responded to say that it will work with schools to put in place prevention and intervention measures and that there is a “culture of care and mutual respect in our classrooms”. Schools have also put in place peer support systems where peer supporters look out for their classmates and report or seek help from their teachers when they observe situations that affect the safety of their classmates.
