Learning Outcomes

• After the completion of this assignment, learners will be able to explain the importance of the database approach to data management and Big data by identifying opportunities to implement them in an organization.
• Explain the applications of Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Analytics with reference to the business values that applications can bring to an organization.
• Describe practical applications of the Internet of Things (IoT) by assessing the challenges of moving IoT data into Cloud computing
• Identify and evaluate the types of computer exploits and their impacts with reference to the robustness of the organization’s IT infrastructure.

Requirements

Identify a company of your choice (which has a need to have IT and Information Systems) and refer to the report submission below for the project requirements. Each learner will submit a report following the project requirements below: The company you have selected is assumed to be embarking its journey in digitization, leveraging on the capabilities of IoT, Data Analytics, and Business Intelligence software, to understand the consumer’s market.

The company has, over the years, collected and stored a significant amount of data in hardcopies. It aims to digitalize the data collected over the years and use them to make business decisions to help the company to increase its market share in the competitive economy. As the Head of Information Systems (IS) department, your task is to help the
management team with the following:

• Explain the concepts and applications of Data management and Big Data in the context of the company.
• Introduce the concepts of Business Analytics and Business Intelligence and identify the values of the applications for the organization.
• Assess the practical applications of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the common problems organizations encounter in moving the data collected from IoT devices to Cloud.
• Evaluate the different types of potential computer exploits, their impacts and the solutions to protect the organization from cyber-attack. Report Submissions

Your report for submission should include the following parts:

(i) Cover Page – Include a cover page with the assignment title (BM1783 ICA 2: Business Applications in SCM), name, and admission number of the learner.

(ii) Content page– Set out the sections and subsections of the report and their corresponding page numbers.

(iii) Introduction– Write an introduction to the company you have selected. Provide a background of the company and it’s business and Information Systems (IS) activities. Highlight the current physical and information flows of the company.

(iv) Main Analysis –

• Explain the concepts of Data management and Big Data and identify opportunities to implement Big Data for the organization.
• Describe the key components of Business Analytics and Business Intelligence and highlight the value of the applications that the organization will benefit from implementing Business Analytics and Business Intelligence.
• Suggest at least practical applications of the Internet of Things (IoT) and identifying the common problems of moving IoT data to Cloud Computing.
• Identify the different types of computer exploits, their impacts, and discuss ways an organization’s information systems can be protected from cyber-attack.
