Course Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing this course students will be able to:

1. Describe influences on the health and wellbeing of the ageing population by identifying normal ageing patterns, and age-related and age-acquired illness including chronic conditions;
2. Explain physiological parameters associated with acute and chronic illness in the older person;
3. Identify factors related to pharmacological agents that influence the care, treatment, and comfort of older adults
4. Reflect upon personal attitudes, beliefs, and cultural influences and how they affect ageing and care of older persons;
5. Discuss client-centered care of older adults in acute, specialty, and community settings, including intervention strategies related to compromised cognitive function.

Essay Question:

Demonstrate an ability to critically reflect on nursing care of an older person with impaired cognitive function.

Part A

1. Need a brief introduction to an older person with cognitive impairment (Delirium, Dementia, or Depression), medication currently taking, other conditions, and social and care situations.
2. Identify 3 health risks, each health risk must have a risk tool to assess and need 2 nursing care activities.

Part B

Critical based on evidence the chosen care activities with references and how you going to change and explain why it’s good for older persons.
