The Scenario
You work for a Multinational Corporation for the past 15 years. Whilst the company has been very successful, the organisation has highlighted during a staff meeting that improvisations have to be made for the organisation to continue being successful. It has come to light that staff, even though are specialists in their areas of work, lack communication skills. Management highlighted this during the meeting after receiving numerous complaints on the lack of appropriate communication skills amongst staff in both internal and external communications. The Training and Development Department in your organisation has been tasked with the duty to look into the issue and has decided to run a one-day Effective Communication Skills Session for all its employees.
You have been asked to support your Training and Development Manager with the planning and implementation of a professional development event targeted at internal employees within your organisation. The focus of the training event will be on improving communication skills. It is expected that 100 employees will attend the event which is held at Nanyang Polytechnic. The Polytechnic has a large auditorium that will seat 150, and the outdoor center can accommodate 50 people at any one time for activities. In addition, there are three break-out rooms, one with computers for up to 40 and two other seminar rooms that seat up to 50.
Task 1a
Discuss and analyse the importance of team dynamics in working with large groups such as a Multinational Corporation. (Outcome 3)
Task 1b
Design a two-hour workshop based on ‘team dynamics’ to include a presentation, interactive links to suitable sites and an activity sheet that will require delegates to take part in some form of team-building task. (Outcome 3)
Task 1c
Produce a report for your reporting officer on a critical evaluation of your own contribution and participation in the workshop as team member. (Outcome 3)
Having completed the training event, you now need to reflect on your experience and consider your Continuous Professional Development needs.
Task 2a
Consider your personal and career goals and identify your CPD needs and what actions would you put in a position to achieve these goals. Produce a development plan outlining your future goals and identifying how these can be realized. (Outcome 4)
Task 2b
Conduct research into at least five motivational theories and how they can be used to improve employee performance. Compare these five theories and present your findings as a Power point presentation to the Training and Development department team as your target audience. (Outcome 4)
Task 2c
Write a report on the usage of CPD within Multinational Corporations and what evidence would be required to measure how effective this CPD is in helping employees achieve their goals while using their time and resources effectively. (Outcome 4)
