XFE4401: Identify an Educational or Psychological Issue Which forms the Focus of Inquiry: Intergrated Project research Paper, NUS, Singapore

Course Synopsis:
This capstone course requires participants to identify an educational or psychological issue which forms the focus of inquiry, to locate and to read the most relevant literature to generate suggested potential solutions to address the problem. The solutions should show evidence that they are able to take the available information and be restructured in an appropriate way to deal with the issue.

Course Objectives:
Through this course, participants will

• demonstrate an understanding of educational research in a critical inquiry of an education issue.
• apply integrated knowledge and skills acquired from their programme coursework in designing a literature-support research proposal.

Course Syllabus
Review and integration of key concepts introduced in programme coursework such as MED 900 and other specialization courses into a feasible and sufficiently research proposal.

Assessment Requisites:
Literature-supported research proposal
Conduct a literature review of the main issues relating to the research topic of choice, and propose a research plan.

Participants to do an oral presentation of their integrative project work.

Guide to Competencies for a Literature-Supported Research Proposal:

Competencies  
1. Formulate, describe and justify a significant issue that is suitable for critical inquiry. An issue is something we know a little about but want to find out more.
2. Explain relevant constructs within a conceptual framework for a quantitative study, or provide the context of foreshadowed problems for a qualitative study.
3. Write a review of relevant literature that is relevant to the issue. Analytical,  coherent, highlight “gaps”, relate to local contexts. To cover theories,  methodologies, findings, practices(practical ideas), etc.
4. Describe relevant questions for research or inquiry in the “standard” format.
5. Describe research design, instruments, intended data analysis and ethical considerations.
