• Work on the design of a hypothetical mobile app to be used in hospital waiting rooms by users such patients, health care practitioners, and administrators. There are a number of ways to think about creating value with a tool like this, and specific use cases are left for you to create.
• This assignment will begin with the Understand and Empathize phase of Design Thinking, as you will seek out input from target users by going out into the field and speaking directly to them. Interacting directly with your ultimate end users is a major part of design thinking, so this assignment will afford you the opportunity to get some practice in doing so. While you are strongly encouraged to engage with health care practitioners or hospital administrators if you can, this is not a requirement, and this scenario was chosen because just about anyone can relate to being a patient (or with a patient) at a hospital. If you aren’t able to access health care practitioners directly, think about potential proxies (e.g. friends or family members who have had hospital experiences).
