Forced Expiratory Volume (FEV) is an index of pulmonary function that measures the volume of air expelled after 1 second of constant effort. The data set FEV. CSV on Luminus contains measurements for 654 children aged 3 to 19 years of age. The purpose of the data collection was to study how FEV is affected by certain other variables. The variables that we shall work with are

Age: Age in years.

FEV: FEV measurement.

Hgt: Height in inches.

height: Height in meters.

Sex: 0 = female, 1 = male.

Smoking status: 0 = current non-smoker, 1 = current smoker.

Purpose: propose a model that you think is the best among all the possible models.

Your report can be organized in the following manner:

1. Exploring the response variable

What you should do:

• Summarize the response variable and the possible relationship of the response and the regressors by descriptive statistics, figures, or plots (histogram, scatter plot, boxplot, normal probability plot, etc).
• You need to describe: variable type; possible distribution of response and comment on the possible relationship between variables.

2. The Model What you should do:

• Fit a multiple linear regression model. Present the coefficients table and Anova table.
• Describe the parameter estimation significance. Give full steps of model adequacy checking and propose treatment if it is needed.
• Do a model selection to find the best model. You may provide some graphs drawn after fitting a model to see if the model tit ted adequately.
• State your final model.

3. The format:

The final report is NO MORE THAN 6 PAGES. Tables and figures are numbered and referred to in the report by number. Formulas are displayed in the center of a separate line. The R code can be attached at the end of the report, as an appendix (which is not counted in the 6 pages of the report).
