  3. A total of 2 sessions have been allocated for this individual project assignment. In the 1st session, students will be briefed on the project requirements. A 2nd session (project consultation) on 30th June 25 (Mon) is allocated to provide an opportunity for students to clarify on any points prior to submission.
  4. A written report submission of minimum 2000 words count is required. The
    submission dateline shall be no later than 6th July 24 (Sun) 2359 hrs. (Note:
    10 marks will be deducted for late submission, Politemall folder will close 7
    days after deadline).
  5. The submission of the report shall be via Politemall in Microsoft Word format.
    Student’s full name and student ID number shall be clearly indicated at the first page of the report. The file name of the report shall also include the student’s name.
  6. This individual project assignment is upon 100 marks. It carries a 60%
    weightage as part of overall assessment of this subject.

DSWSH MC2 ELECTRONIC SECURITY – INDIVIDUAL PROJECT ASSIGNMENT

  1. American Embassy in Singapore is proposing a new American International
    School (AIS) at Woodlands. The AIS consists of a 4 storey building and a
    sports hall.
  2. The AIS is proposed with a chain-link fence (2.4m high), concrete wall (2.4m
    high), a vehicular sliding gate (vehicular entrance) and 2 pedestrian gates (front
    & back entrance). The AIS is surrounded by a condominium development (5m
    away from AIS fence line), open field and 3m tall trees (2m away from AIS
    fence line). Open drain of (1m wide x 2m depth) is located along the front
    entrance of the AIS.
  3. All visitors are required to register at the Guard House before accessing to the
    school. The operating hours of the school is from 0630 hrs till 1900 hrs.
  4. The Guard House is located at the main entrance and consists of security
    system monitoring equipment for the AIS.
  5. The 4 storeys building consists of the following:
    1. Level 1 – School Canteen, Assembly Hall, Sport Hall and Server Room
    2. Level 2 – Classrooms
    3. Level 3 – Classrooms
    4. Level 4 – Classrooms and Music Room
  6. The Sports Equipment Rooms next to sports field form part of the Perimeter
    Chain Link Fence.
  7. You are engaged by AIS to propose security measures for their school.
  8. A security risk assessment has been conducted and the risk factor is identified as “Medium”. The proposed security measures should be based on the risk factor identified.
  9. Students are to propose the security measures based on the layout given in
    Annex B. The design should be based on “Protection in Depth” approach and
    proposal on the External & Internal Intrusion Detection System (IDS).
  10. The following threats are used as part of the security risk assessment:
    1. Internal Threats – Internal Theft, Arson, Vandalism, Sabotage, Theft of
      Confidential Information.
    2. External Threats – Intrusion, Theft, Arson, Vandalism, Sabotage and
      Theft of Confidential Information.
  11. The project assignment should include:
    1. Security risk assessment (Short paragraph based on the information
      given. There is no need to conduct any security risk assessment.)
    2. Security concept plan and mitigation measures based on “Protection in
      Depth” approach.
    3. Objectives, descriptions and functions of the proposed security devices.
    4. Locations of all proposed security devices (layout plan with devices and
      legends shall be included).

12. The project assignment report format shall include the following:

  1. Introduction; (5)
  2. Security risk assessment (Short paragraph on the security risk
    assessment provided). (5)
  3. Proposed security concept design based on the following Protection in
    Depth layers; (30)

    1. Adjacent Areas / Perimeter; and
    2. Building Perimeter.
  4. Detailed descriptions, functions, objectives of all proposed devices (External &
    Internal IDS); (30)
  5. Submission of detailed layout plans including all proposed security devices; (25)
  6. Conclusion. (5)
