Assessment Activity 1: Centre Review
Introduction
The aim of this assessment is to develop your skills in using the physical space in a student care center to create a conducive environment for the learners.
Instructions
Draw an indoor floor plan and an outdoor area of your ideal student care centre. Assume you have a rectangular floor space of dimensions 180sq metres for 30 children per session aged 7-14 years.
An example of how you can produce the layout is given below. You may use MS word or Powerpoint or handdraw method. You also do not need to have 20 sections.

You must include the following points:
1) State all the common interests and homework requirements for students aged 7-14 years at your ideal centre.
2) Based on your floor plan
- Explain in detail how the indoor and outdoor physical environment for your ideal centre would be challenging, positive and developmentally appropriate to support the development of students aged 7-14 years. Your explanations must include five (5) components of indoor space and three (3) components of outdoor space.
- An explanation of why it is important to consistently improve the physical environment of a student care centre.
3) State six (6) suitable equipment and resources to develop students of aged 7-14 years based on their needs and interest.
4) Recommend appropriate strategies to implement/supervise activities and create a supportive human environment, which must include:
- Three (3) applications of discipline models (Skinner, Kounin, and Canter )
- Three (3) strategies to communicate respectfully with students.
5) Recommend three (3) strategies that you can implement to communicate to the caregivers effectively

Conduct a review of the centre you work in, and write a report on your observations and findings. Your review and report must include all of the following components:
