A breakdown of the parts of the products should be presented clearly.

1. At least 5 different parts should be analysed. (5 parts are a minimum requirement)

2. Details analysis on the materials used for the part, manufacturing process. The analysis must be explained clearly by using words, pictures, or sketches.

3. Explain why the kind of materials is chosen. What are the properties of the material required in the product design? How to test the material properties to ensure quality control of the product?

Note: Don’t focus too much on explaining the working principle in the report. However, you may explain the function of parts so that to analysis on the material needed. The focus on the report is on the materials and manufacturing of such product in component level.

The contents of the report are more than double the minimum requirement.  A large amount of detailed analysis provided for materials, manufacturing process and manufacturing. A strong effort from students can be evidenced. Information is accurate, precise and interpreted by the student.  Process parameters, testing parameters are precisely discussed in the report.  Different approaches are discussed and also illustrated clearly.

MOTOR ROTOR

The motor is first built from a metallic disc, and the disc is cut into sheets in the process of Lamination. The sheet laminations are then combined to form a rotary Core. The core is fitted with a cylindrical steel shaft, with plastic insulation covering both sides of the rotary core.

A plastic commutator holder is fitted over the shaft. The plastic commutator holder is also cylindrical to take the shape of the metal shaft. It acts as an electrical insulator for the shaft to prevent a short circuit.

Windings are coiled around each bar of the rotary core. The windings are made of several coils of insulated copper wire. The ends of the windings are connected to slots in the core to carry current in a magnetic field that develops electromagnetic torque.

The magnetic field can be set up by covering the core with a permanent magnet or an electromagnet.
